According to the Christian religion, the practice of presenting gifts during Christmas was introduced by the ‘Biblical Magi’ which is sometimes referred to as ‘Three Wise Men’ or ‘Three Kings’. They carried three gifts namely:
- Frankincense:-It was a perfume which was utilized by the Jewish people for worshipping.
- Gold: -It was closely related with Kings as well as the Christian community. They portrayed Jesus as the ‘King of Kings’.
- Myrrh: -It was a perfume which was sprayed on the dead bodies for fragrance. It denotes that Jesus would go through hardships and expire.
These three wise men travelled a long distance from the East and began their quest for ‘Divine Infant’ with the aim of presenting gifts to him. The initial contact with the ‘Divine Infant’ took place during the Feast of Epiphany on January 6th. From that day onwards, the practice of gift giving became very popular.
